Aquaseal® UV cure is a quick and simple urethane repair adhesive, that cures in under a minute when activated by ultraviolet sunlight (or UV torch light). This stuff adheres well to both Alpacka Raft and other polyurethane coated raft materials, as well as fabrics such GORETEX® and alike, used in paddling drysuits by leading brands such as Kokatat.
We’ve found the UV cure Aquaseal® a good choice for smaller mishaps, when time is off the essence and you need to get your repair done quickly and get back on the water. As the cure is more or less instantaneous, we primarily recommend Aquaseal UV for use with minor pin holes, where a simple dollop of this stuff covers the area. For more control or for application to larger areas, we recommend completing the repair at night, and curing with a UV pen light torch.
This stuff can be applied over small pin holes on seats, seat backrest, pontoon fabrics and dry suits (works surprising well for drysuit pinholes) to regain a water and airtight seal.
The Aquaseal® UV can be activated by either sunlight, or at night with a small UV pen light torch. This adhesive cures in less than a minute once applied, so no need to wait an extended period for the glue to dry (such as with Aquaseal® +FD). The small 7g tube should is generally sufficient for multiple applications/trips, if the tube is recapped and stored out of the sun (unlike Aquaseal® FD which once opened will only be good for a couple applications due to curing when exposed to air).
Aquaseal® UV does have a slightly harder/brittle cure, and does tend to yellow with time. For a more flexible cure, with little to no yellow over time, we recommend our Aquaseal® +FD.
Note: Aquaseal is primarily a really good sealant and it works excellently in this respect. We do not recommend using it for attaching anchor points, or glueing patches to your rafts, where the Aquaseal is not directly in contact with air during the curing process (i.e. smeared between layers).
