Kokatat Winter Paddling Mitts (Pogies)
When the wind kicks up, keep your digits warm! The "hook-and-loop" closure easily secures around the paddle shaft and the pile fleece lining will keep your hands toasty. Kokatat’s proprietary Hydrus 2.5 waterproof breathable fabric, treated with a durable water repellent coating (DWR), keeps the splashing water off your hands.
Pack Raft Australia’s recommendation: If you’re anything like us, we’ve found paddling in cold or wintery conditions can leave your hands and fingers worse for wear. We have tried various traditional neoprene gloves over the winters, but generally find these not to be particularly warm, result in poor grip and/or hand control of your paddle shaft or overall poor dexterity. The main culprit for cold hands in wintery paddling conditions is ambient wind chill and splashes/rain on your extremities. Enter Pogies. These mitts offer wind and splash protection for your fingers and hands, but allow full hand contact and control of your paddle shaft. A waterproof breathable Hydrus 2.5 outer fabric offers ultralight protection, with a plush synthetic pile fleece lining offering direct contact thermal properties. Unlike gloves, Pogies fit directly to your paddle shaft via hook and loop connection, and allow your hands to exit smoothly if/when required.
